Tropical Depression 13 Update
Tropical Depression 13 Update
In the next 24 hours, it is expected that Tropical Depression 13 will become a Tropical Storm. Once this happens, it will be named Laura. We are closely monitoring the tropics as we near the peak of hurricane season, which runs from late August through late September. However, the Atlantic hurricane season is from June 1st until November 30th.
Last night, August 19, 2020, Tropical Depression 13 developed in the central Atlantic Ocean. As we all know, the tracking and potential path for tropical developments do change. According to the Weather Channel, “ has formed 1,000 miles east of the Lesser Antilles, and will head toward the Leeward Islands, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands by this weekend, and potentially near Florida early next week.”
What does that mean for the Gulf Coast and Alabama? It is difficult to project the impact at this time, but we should have more clarity as this depression develops. The National Weather Service has issued a cone path which “contains the probable path of the storm center but does not show the size of the storm. Hazardous conditions can occur outside of the cone.” I will continue to monitor this storm and our other developments in the tropics for you.
