The event will be held at the Benjamin Barnes YMCA. It's sponsored by The University of Alabama's Project: Wellness in Motion. This health and wellness fair will feature free health screenings, giveaways, kids' activities, COVID-19 Vaccine shots by Whatley Health Services, and more.

According to the ADPH, The Pfizer vaccine is the only COVID-19 vaccine currently authorized for ages 12 and older. Currently, our county health departments are giving the Moderna vaccine, which is authorized for ages 18 and older. Other providers, such as hospitals and some pharmacies, are giving the Pfizer vaccine. These other providers may also be offering the Johnson and Johnson vaccine, which is currently not authorized for those under 18 years of age. If you are 12-17 years of age, please check vaccines.gov or contact the provider to see which vaccine is offered before scheduling your appointment.

There are other events around the city that will have the COVID-19 vaccine on hand. DCH is working with volunteers from West Alabama Pediatrics, Tuscaloosa Pediatrics and Bama Pediatrics to offer the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine on Saturday, Aug. 21 from 8 a.m. – noon. You can click here to register for that event. Keep in mind that a parent or guardian must accompany, and sign a consent form for, any individual between the ages of 12 and 17 who wishes to receive the vaccine.
