Tuscaloosa News to be Printed in Montgomery, Eliminating 35 Local Jobs
The Tuscaloosa News announced plans Thursday to have the newspaper printed at a press in Montgomery instead of locally, a cost-cutting move that will eliminate 35 jobs here in the Druid City.
Since a corporate merger in late 2019, the News has been owned by the Gannett Company, Inc., by far the largest newspaper company in the U.S.
Gannett also owns the Montgomery Advertiser, and is moving the print production of the News to that facility to consolidate costs.
The editorial and advertising staff of the paper will still be based in Tuscaloosa and delivery of the print product will not be impacted, but 16 full-time and 19 part-time employees will be laid off.
