River Walk Bridge in Tuscaloosa Closing for Repairs
A temporary closure is coming to a popular walking spot in Tuscaloosa.
The River Walk Bridge beside Jack Warner Parkway near the intersections of Marr’s Spring Road and Sherwood Drive will be closed for about two weeks starting Monday, February 2, according to the press release from the City of Tuscaloosa.

City officials say the closure is needed so crews can replace the hand railing on the bridge. While the work is underway, pedestrians will not be able to use that section of the Riverwalk, so walkers, runners, and cyclists should plan alternate routes ahead of time.
Safety is a major concern during this project. Officials are stressing that people should not try to use Jack Warner Parkway as a detour, according to the press release. The roadway is not considered safe or secure for pedestrian traffic, and using it could put people at serious risk.
The Riverwalk is one of Tuscaloosa’s most used outdoor spaces, especially for morning workouts, evening strolls, and weekend family outings. While the short-term inconvenience may cause some adjustments, the upgrades are aimed at improving long-term safety for everyone who uses the bridge.
Drivers and pedestrians in the area are encouraged to stay alert for signage and work crews while the project is underway.
