The final days of the year often bring reflection and celebration but for many families in Tuscaloosa and West Alabama they also bring tough decisions about basic needs. As December 31 approaches local leaders with the Salvation Army of Tuscaloosa are reminding the community that year end giving can make a real difference for neighbors facing food insecurity housing instability and utility challenges.

This season the Salvation Army is asking residents to think local when deciding where to give. The organization serves as a safety net for individuals and families who are working to regain stability but may need a helping hand to get there. From keeping meals on the table to making sure seniors veterans and families are not left out in the cold these services remain critical as the new year begins.

According to the press release from the Salvation Army Major John Edmonds Commanding Officer for the Tuscaloosa and West Alabama area stressed the importance of community support saying “We recognize our community has many choices of who to support and we hope they will consider The Salvation Army as a local partner in building a stronger community together.” He also noted that donations made by December 31 directly support programs right here in the region helping neighbors take meaningful steps toward hope and long term stability.

Those programs include food assistance hot meal services emergency shelter transitional housing emergency financial help utility assistance senior outreach veteran services and job training opportunities. Each service is powered by local generosity and designed to meet people where they are while helping them move forward.

According to the press release Edmonds emphasized that funds raised locally stay local and are essential to keeping services available throughout the year. Without that support many of these programs would not be possible for the people who rely on them most.

Residents who want to give before the deadline can donate online at tuscaloosakettle dot org by phone at 205 632 3684 or by dropping off or mailing a contribution to 2902 Greensboro Avenue.
