Stillman College hoops is in full swing and the defending HBCU Athletic Conference Champs are getting to work this season. Students from a few West Alabama elementary and middle schools had the chance to attend a Stillman Men's basketball game for Stillman's special Holiday Hoops Bash.

Wednesday December 17th, the Stillman College Men's basketball team faced off against Faulkner University at Birthright Alumni Hall.

We were privileged to welcome as our education day, our students, local students here from the school system, to be a part of our holiday basketball bash .

The Holiday Hoops Bash is a community event project by Stillman College Athletics where schools are allowed to be part of the Stillman basketball in game experience. The day featured a live DJ, plenty of prizes, dancing, and of course food and drinks.

"We're really excited that we were able to do this community event project for students here in West Tuscaloosa, said Terrance Whittle, Director of Athletics at Stillman College.

"We were able to expose these young people to our campus and have fun in the process."

The schools that attended the game were Oakdale Elementary School I Dream Big Middle School, Collins Riverside Middle School, Crestmont Elementary School, and Matthews Elementary School.

Whittle was sure to shine a light on not only the school who participated, but the staff at Stillman college who helped make this event happen.

"I want to really give a special thank you to to my athletic staff, our operations, coordinating team. Assistant Athletic Director Ashley Curry, she did a heck of a job coordinating this event. Coach Harold Ingram, Coach Theresa Franks, they were the foot soldiers on the ground to really make this happen."

When speaking on the success of the event and why he felt this was important to make happen, Whittle emphasized that college can be fun as well as productive.

"College is not all about the nuts and bolts of academia like making good grades and being productive citizens, but it's also about having fun in the process and being a part of community."
