Would You Deactivate Your Facebook Account For Democracy?
How much would it cost for you to deactivate your Facebook account?
Seriously, how much would it take for you to deactivate your Facebook account for a couple of weeks?
Reason being is that a Tweet went out on Thursday (September 3rd) that the social media giant Facebook will be looking to pay users who either take a survey or deactivate their account for research purposes.
USA Today is reporting that Elizabeth Dwoskin a Washington Post reporter shared a screen shot Facebook asking her what would she accept to close her Facebook or Instagram account. Here's the kicker the survey tells in detail that it would go dark in late September and it could last from one to six weeks and the payout would be between $10-$20 a week.
Liz Bourgeois, a spokesperson for Facebook confirmed the company will be compensating the participants of the study.
Anyone who chooses to opt-in – whether it's completing surveys or deactivating FB or IG for a period of time – will be compensated. This is fairly standard for this type of academic research.
This survey will also have users take a survey leading up to the U.S. Presidential election on November 3rd and the research will be done by an outside team of experts.
So far between 200,000 to 400,000 Facebook users will participate in the study.
