The HBCU Alumni United Cares Facebook Page, which fosters online networking for HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) randomly, selected Alabama A&M University in fundraiser drive for the week of June 14, 2020. On Saturday, June 13, 2020, the HBCU Alumni United randomly chosen out of one hundred and two nationally accredited HBCUs, Alabama A&M University in Huntsville, Alabama, Allen University in Columbia, South Carolina, and Southern University in New Orleans.
The HBCU Alumni United Cares Facebook Page fundraising campaign will target one hundred and two nationally accredited HBCUs that started in early June and will run until December 31, 2020. The purpose is to drum up interest, information, and increased alumni donations towards various HBCUs. According to UNCF, they offer six reasons for the importance of HBCUs. “1) Outside Impact, Low-Cost = “Best Buy” in Education. 2) Meeting the Needs of Low-income, First-generation Students. 3) Lower Costs Narrow the Racial Wealth Gap. 4) Campus Climate Fosters Success. 5) Addresses the Nation’s Under and Unemployment Crisis. 6) HBCUs Offer a True Value/Values Proposition.”

Also, the UNCF offers a great reminder about HBCUs, “For more than 100 years, HBCUs have been educating minorities, giving them economic opportunities and instilling great values. Not only have they consistently produced leaders in their communities and across the nation, but HBCUs today are consistently and affordably producing the leaders of the future.”
