4 years after being convicted of killing multiple family members, an Alabama teen has been sentenced to life in prison.

Five people were shot in the head at their home in Elkmont in 2019.

Mason Sisk, who was 14 years old at the time of the crime, was convicted of killing his father, adoptive mother, and younger siblings which the youngest was an infant, according to AP News. 

The judge who handed the life sentence to Mason Sisk says the crime was"ghastly, disturbing."

AP News reported that Circuit Judge Chadwick Wise said the crime was also "draped in unmitigated evil," as he handed down the harshest punishment allowed by law.

In 2019, Jonh Wayne Sisk, 38, and Mary Sisk, 35, were found dead in their home along with their three children, 6-year-old Kane, 4-year-old Aurora, and 6-month-old Colson who were all shot in the head.

According to AP News, Mason Sisk initially told police he heard gunshots while he was in the basement playing video games and then ran outside and saw a vehicle pulling away. Eventually, Sisk admitted to other murders.

Uncovered reports that Alabama had a murder rate of 12.9 according to state statistics. In 2016, there were close to 30 murders in Montgomery alone.

Murder in Alabama is actually one of the most committed crimes in the state. In the year 2019, Alabama reported 358 murders in the state. This number was the 9th highest rate in the country.
