Calling All Soon To Be Fathers: This Free Event Is For You

Becoming a dad is one of the greatest feelings I've ever had. Being by my wife's side as she went through pregnancy & gave birth really helped me learn a lot about what women go through. It was also amazing to work with our team of Doulas.

I completely understand the term Doula is very foreign to many. It was foreign to me until my wife became one! Lol! According to Dona, a doula is a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to a mother before, during, and shortly after childbirth to help her achieve the healthiest, most satisfying experience possible. When it comes to birth, most people know of midwives but not Doulas. If you ask me, doulas are one of the most important aspects of a successful pregnancy and birth. They support and educate you on things like the best methods for labor positions, & how to manage contractions. Also, they keep you informed on your options during pregnancy, labor, and delivery. I feel that dads play a major role in helping doulas, and it's just as important for dad to have this knowledge as well as mom.

Our very own community Birth Workers Mariah Alyce and Jamilah Channel are hosting an event exclusively for the dads called “The Dream Team: Dads and Doulas”. During the event, they will discuss how dads can work with a doula to provide support for the mom in labor, how they can receive support for themselves during that time, and what they can do to be more supportive from pregnancy through postpartum. It's very important for dads to understand that they play a major role in supporting mom during pregnancy and labor.

With COVID-19 still a major concern, hospitals are only allowing 1 support person in with the mother during birth. Mariah & Jamilah say their "hopes are that this event will bring a since of peace and empower fathers on what to do even if their doula is only able to attend the birth virtually."

The event will be held on August 11 at 7:00 pm. You can get your free tickets at Naimaslove.eventbrite.com. I'll definitely be in attendance and I hope other dads and soon to be dads will as well. See you there!
