It Costs More To Smoke In Alabama Than Almost Every Other State
Million-dollar homes, expensive cars, children's college funds, stock investments, or even lavish vacations are all things Alabama smokers could buy according to a recent study.
When I think of millions of dollars at my disposal, I automatically go to houses.
Plenty of natural lighting, space for the kids to run around, and of course an area out back to lounge.
This Pelham house would be perfect.
Could you imagine going to buy this house and being able to afford it with more than a million dollars left over in the bank?
According to a study conducted by Wallet Hub, the average smoker in Alabama is dropping millions of dollars to support their habit.
Every year, smoking costs the United States more than $600 billion, according to Wallet Hub.
The scary side of smoking is that since 1964, smoking-related illnesses have claimed over 20 million lives in the U.S., 2.5 million of which belonged to nonsmokers who developed diseases merely from secondhand smoke exposure.
Study Results
In hopes of encouraging smokers to kick their habit, Wallet Hub conducted a study where they looked into the cost per person for smoking in 50 states across the U.S. and the District Of Columbia.
They calculated potential monetary losses — including both the lifetime and annual cost of a cigarette pack per day, income losses, and other costs.
When it was all said and done, Alabama smokers spent more in a lifetime than over 40 other states.
Alabama ranked in the top five for most expensive costs per smoker.
According to the Wallet Hub study, Alabama smokers spend $2,325,06 over a lifetime.
Whoa!
That's a lot of money gone.
If you know someone who's a smoker, share this information with them. Maybe they don't understand exactly how much money they're using on a recreational habit.
