Could It Be Depression Or Is It Just Life?

A Lot of people often have the question of if they're depressed or are they just going through life. It could be a complicated thing to identify.

Today is National Depression Screening Day. This day has grown much more relevant in today's world. So many more people deal with depression. Some think social media has a direct correlation with the increase in depression cases these days and I'd agree. Either way, we must take care of our mental state and look after our friends and family as well.

I've seen so many people online wonder if they're depressed or just having a rough patch in life. I can admit, I've often wondered the same. Dealing with depression is a slippery slope because you don't want to ignore signs. You also don't want to jump to conclusions. According to Mental Health America, people with depression experience a few key symptoms. Those symptoms include:

  • A persistent sad, anxious or "empty" mood
  • Sleeping too little, early-morning awakening, or sleeping too much
  • Reduced appetite and weight loss, or increased appetite and weight gain
  • Loss of interest or pleasure in activities once enjoyed
  • Restlessness or irritability
  • Difficulty concentrating, remembering or making decisions
  • Fatigue or loss of energy
  • Thoughts of death or suicide

A great way to observe this day besides getting screened is simply checking up on your people. Send a text just asking how their day is going or if they need anything. A text or phone call can go a long way.
