Former Alabama Running Back Santonio Beard Passes Away
Former Alabama running back Santonio Beard passed away on Saturday according to multiple reports. The cause of death has not been reported at this time.
Beard had many memorable moments in his career at the University of Alabama during the 2001 and 2002 seasons.
Beard's most memorable rushing performance in 2001 came in the Iron Bowl at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Beard had a season high 199 yards on 20 carries to propel the Crimson Tide to a 31-7 victory over the Tigers.
Beard also had an excellent season for Alabama in 2002. He rushed for 811 yards and 12 touchdowns. Beard rushed for five touchdowns against Ole Miss in a 42-7 win for the Crimson Tide. These five scores stand as a single game rushing touchdown record for a Crimson Tide player alongside Shaun Alexander (1998 BYU) and Najee Harris (2020 Ole Miss).
