Former Crimson Tide wideout and recent second round NFL draft selection John Metchie III was selected in the seventh round of the 2022 CFL Draft just days after being picked by the Houston Texans.
The British Columbia Lions, or BC Lions as most CFL fans refer to them, made the announcement via their twitter page after making the selection.
Metchie, who grew up in Brampton, Ontario, has won the Jon Cornish Trophy, awarded to the top Canadian college athlete, two years in a row.
While the allure of returning home to be immediately one of the league's best players could be convincing to a young athlete, it's probably safe to say that Metchie will not be suiting up for the BC Lions.
Instead, the Lions will simply hold the rights to him as a player if he ever does decide to join the ranks of the CFL, which, again, is very unlikely.
In three years at Alabama. Metchie was fantastic. The Canadian target racked up an incredible 2,081 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns while being one of the most reliable targets to wear Crimson in a long time.
Now, as a second round selection in the NFL, Metchie has a chance in front of him to be a crucial piece of the Texans' rebuild and potentially one of league's top rookie receivers.
