Alabama Football Prepared For Storm With Unique Stadium System
I would expect nothing less at the University of Alabama than state-of-the-art science for our student-athletes. Hurricane Isaias is set to disrupt life across the Gulf Coast and Alabama. What does that mean for Saturday evening? You may not believe this, but the Alabama Crimson Tide use the same system as Augusta National. It's known as a "SubAir" system.

I’m pretty certain that most players don’t love sloppy, wet conditions or, even worse, a soaking, flooded field. However, that shouldn’t be a problem for our Alabama Crimson Tide this weekend. Even with lots of rain in the forecast, the "SubAir" state-of-the-art system will keep the field as dry as possible for the game. I’ve spoken with a couple of sources at the university, and while none wanted to go on record, this system appears unlike anything else in college football. It is a sprawling network of pipes and equipment all running underneath Saban Field.
My sources tell me only one or two schools outside the University of Alabama have this field system. The system was installed in 2023, and this is really the first big test of our fancy "SubAir" system. When the field is wet, it can lead to all kinds of mistakes, turnovers, and interceptions, and I don’t think any quarterback really loves throwing a wet ball. We have exclusive photos showing the system being set up for this weekend.
