Jameson Williams Drafted No. 12 Overall to Lions
Alabama wide receiver Jameson Williams was drafted at No. 12 overall to the Detroit Lions in the 2022 NFL Draft, the fourth receiver off the board.
After transferring from Ohio State during the 2021 off-season, Williams had a career-high season, picking up: 79 receptions for 1,572 yards and 15 touchdowns. He also saw three rushing attempts for 23 yards.
Williams led the 2021 Crimson Tide team in receiving yards and touchdowns, while also having second-most receptions, and the sixth-most rushing yards.
The speedy wide receiver tore his ACL in the 2021 College Football National Championship loss to Georgia, however that won't hurt his draft stock, according to some professionals.
"I don't think it's gonna affect it much at all," said NFL draft analyst for the NFL Network Daniel Jeremiah."I think there's still a legit chance that he could surprise us and be the first overall receiver off the board... He's got a lot of buzz around the league."
Jamo can out-run any opponent and is a pro at creating separation to make a big play when needed, an asset to any receiving core.
Williams' explosive feet will be a huge help to this struggling Lions team, who have relied on Amon-Ra St. Brown for most of last season. Now, the 3-13-1 team not only has a little receiving depth going for the upcoming season but also could be the starting piece of a Lions rebuild.
Williams joins former Crimson Tide players Shaun Dion Hamilton and Saivion Smith.
With Williams and Neal getting drafted this evening, Alabama has 41 first-round draft picks under Nick Saban.
