Lane Kiffin Spills The Beans on Who Taught Nick Saban About “Deez Nuts”
At 69-years old, Alabama head coach Nick Saban is one of the oldest coaches in the game today but he still finds a way to connect with his players. The seven-time national champion has a dry sense of humor that keeps his players on their toes.
During this week's media availability, junior safety Jordan Battle revealed that Saban is still a fan of "deez nuts" jokes.
Where did Saban pick up the raunchy quip? On the SEC Coaches Weekly Teleconference, Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin revealed that former Alabama cornerback Marlon Humphrey is the one to blame.
This isn't the first time that a one of Saban's players have discussed his affinity for the unseemly joke. Current Las Vegas Raiders running back joined the Dan Patrick Show in 2019 and discussed the humorous side of Saban.
“He likes to do a lot of ‘deez nuts’ jokes,” Jacobs said during the interview. “It’s funny because I haven’t heard one of them since like middle school, but when I went to college Saban used to do it a lot.”
Humphrey, the former 5-star recruit and two-time NFL Pro Bowler, seemed to plead the fifth when confronted as the one to teach Saban about "deez nuts" jokes.
While the joke is as old as time it returned to mainstream popularity in the Spring of 2015 when this viral video emerged online. Humphrey was a redshirtting as a freshman in Tuscaloosa in 2015.
