A Marion man is facing felony assault charges after he allegedly attacked a man in a convenience store.

According to court records, Verdell Rodriguez Jackson, 22, attacked another man at the Jr. Food Store on Green Street last Friday by jumping on him and then firing a round with a 9mm pistol. The victim was not struck by the gunfire, and was hurt but not hospitalized as he suffered a bruised knee and right shoulder in the altercation.

The Marion Police Department recovered the 9mm pistol and charged Jackson with second-degree assault.

Jackson was out on bond after a July 10th shooting incident during which he and another Marion man allegedly exchanged gunfire with pistols, shotguns and assault rifles.

In that case, Jackson was charged with one count of discharging a gun into an occupied building, one count of reckless endangerment and three counts of second-degree criminal mischief.
