Thursday, McDonald's announced they will test the Beyond Meat plant based burgers in Canada with plans to expand in the future.

McDonald's will call the burger the "P.L.T." which means plant, lettuce and tomato. The sandwich will sell for 12 weeks starting September 30th in restaurants around Ontario, Canada. The plan is for the plant based burgers to mimic the taste of McDonald's regular sandwiches.

According to CBS News, a McDonald's executive stated, ""As customer interest in plant-based options accelerated rapidly, our curiosity piqued, too. We've kept an eye on this emerging trend, and now we're ready to learn more by running a test in one of our markets."

McDonald's joins the list of restaurants recently adding plant based options their menu this year. Last month KFC partnered with Beyond Meat to sell plant based fried chicken at a location in Atlanta and Burger King added the Impossible Whopper to their menu.

With the growing craze of plant based foods, we're sure more companies will release more plant based options.
