New Bill Would Require Alabama Students to Sing ‘Star Spangled Banner’ Every Week
Should Alabama students begin each day by singing the national anthem?
Alabama State Senator Gerald Allen is introducing a bill in the upcoming legislative session that would require students in the state to begin all sporting events with "The Star Spangled Banner." Students would also be required to sing the national anthem at least once per week during school hours.
The text of AL SB3 is as follows:
"Relating to public K-12 schools; to require local boards of education to adopt policies requiring each public K-12 school to broadcast or sanction the performance of "The Star-Spangled Banner" at the commencement of each school-sanctioned sporting event and at least once per week at each public K-12 school during school hours."
