Since moving to Tuscaloosa I've noticed that a lot of people in the community don't feel like they're heard by officials. With the killing of George Floyd jump-starting the conversation of race relations within our community, elected officials and Mayor Walt Maddox will be holding open forums on race relations.

The City of Tuscaloosa, the Diverse Business Council, and the Chamber of Commerce Of West Alabama will hold a discussion via Zoom and Facebook on community policing. It's set Wednesday, June 10 at 1:30 pm. This will be the first in a series of discussions in West Alabama on race relations. the series is entitled Bridging The Gap. I think this is so amazing that officials in West Alabama are open to having these tough conversations and are willing to hear from the community. I don't think communities can truly come together and change if the real issues aren't discussed and actions aren't taken to correct said issues. The objectives of the first forum are to:

·     Have frank and honest discussions.

·     Advance the conversation about race relations.

·     Bridge the gap of understanding between the community and the police force.

·     Identify tangible solutions.

·     Tackle tough issues that hinder the economic development and prosperity of diverse businesses in the Tuscaloosa community.

This first forum will feature elected officials and community leaders around West Alabama including Alabama State Representative, District 70 Chris England, Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama CEO Jim Page, Impact Nation Fellowship Church Pastor Bishop L. Spenser Smith, Tuscaloosa Police Department, City of Tuscaloosa, Tuscaloosa PD Cheif Brent Blankley and more! If you want to bring change to West Alabama here is a great starting point. Tell your family and friends to join the discussion as well!
