Selma Dominates Central In 32-12 Victory

The Selma Saints (5-2,4-0 ) started as strong as they finished dismantling the Central Falcons (2-5,1-4) 32-12 in a regional matchup.

An electrifying kick off return by Christian Curtis resulted in the Falcons taking over at the opponents 20 yard line. However an interception by Javonte Stubbs flipped the momentum and gave the Saints the ball back on their own 15-yard line.

This resulted in the Saints marching down the field and cap off the drive with a 1-yard touchdown run by Sherod Martin. With a successful 2-point conversion the score would move to 8-0 with 7:30 left to go in the 1st quarter.

A 60-yard return by Curtis placed Central in the redzone. Selma however, made a stand with their backs against the all again. Forcing a turnover on downs and giving the ball to a hot offense. 

A steady dose of Freshman Sherod Martin allowed for Selma to work the ball down field while also chewing up clock and setting up the pass, This 10 play 50-yard drive was capped off with a beautiful fade route thrown by DJ Nelson and caught by Javonte Stubb pushing the lead to 16-0 with only 20 seconds left to go in the 1st quarter.

Central finally caught a break by recovering a fumble and converting on a 21-yard strike from Peyton Batchleor to Micheal Richardson, but would only come away with 6 after a blocked Field Goal attempt. After forcing a punt Central went on the attack as Peyton Batchleor accounted for 38 yards of passing allowing Markelious  Furr to score on a 2 yard power run. Cutting the score to 12-16 with 17 seconds left in the half.

The Saints would flip the switch completely in the second half and show why they're undefeated in region play.

A 45-yard bomb from Roderick Ward to Stubbs gave Selma a comfortable cushion. After a successful 2pt conversion the score stood at 24-12 with 8:50 remaining in the 3rd. The defense turned the pressure up and force a string of turnovers on downs and 3-and-outs. The dagger however, would be with 6:42 left in the game as Dj Nelson broke a bevy of tackles and found his way to the endzone to move the score to 32-12.

"If we can establish that run game we're always going to be won offense. We got a ton of athletes that can catch the football, but if we can run it makes the offense ten times better," said Selma coach Willie Gandy.

Central (2-5, 1-4) will look to bounce back against Sipsey Valley after their bye week, as Selma looks to carry their momentum to Sipsey Valley(0-7,0-4) the following week.
