Monday, June 20,  Stillman College's Student Government Association will host a free gas giveaway in Tuscaloosa.

This will no doubt help residents in Tuscaloosa as gas prices in Alabama are averaging $4.58. According to AAA, the current average nationwide is $4.98.

Just a month ago, a gallon of regular gas in Alabama cost an average of $4.31, which is more than last year's average which at this time was around $2.79. According to AAA, since it's Monday, June 13, the national average for a gallon of regular gasoline decreased by a penny.

AAA also stated that gasoline demand declined slightly from 9.2 million b/d to 9.09 million b/d. Just a few days ago the national average for a gallon of gas surged to an all-time high never seen an all-time high national average of $5 and one cents per gallon. This is an all-time high never seen. These prices have never been seen since AAA began collecting pricing data back in the year 2000. AAA spokesman said that based on the demand we're seeing, it seems high prices have not really deterred drivers. If prices stay above $5 We may see people start to change their daily driving habits or lifestyle. But it hasn't happened yet.

Stillman's SGA Chief of Staff Stevon McCullough says,  “The Presidents’ agenda includes letting the community know that not only is the college here to support the community but the students are as well. Our student body succeeds not just when the colleges succeed but when this community does as well, so it is vital we extending a hand to assist."

Stillman's SGA gas giveaway will start at 3 pm and go until 6 pm. It will be on a first come first served basis while supplies last. Originally each vehicle was supposed to get $25 worth of gas at the gas event, that amounts reportedly has been increased to $30 per vehicle. The location will be the Chevron on 3800 Joe Mallisham Parkway in Tuscaloosa.
