After multiple acts of gun violence in West Alabama, this community organization stepped up to make sure the youth had something safe to do for Halloween.

On October 29th, Lift Alabama hosted their Pre Halloween Jam. It was a free event for the youth ages 11-17 in Tuscaloosa. The event was completely free for the community and featured a live DJ, free food, and more!

With the rise in gun violence in West Alabama, It's obvious the youth in the city need something to occupy their time. People often wonder about safety in situations like this. The great part about it is that the Tuscaloosa Police Department was in attendance and even got up to dance for a little bit!

Seeing so many Tuscaloosa elementary and middle school students together having fun made my night. I know how important it is for kids to have a space where they can just be themselves around their peers.

Lift Alabama is hoping this can become a bi-weekly event for the youth in Tuscaloosa. Imagine how cool it would be to have something like this for our youth twice a month. I know the youth as well as the parents and guardians appreciate events like these.

Lift Alabama is a nonprofit community-based organization that stands for Leading Individuals Forward Together. They currently have a Summer Saturday Program for middle school-aged students called LIFT Academy. When asked about their LIFT Academy program, Co-Founder, Katherine Waldon says they hope to expand this program to serve teens year-round.
