Central High Students Receive Surprise Visit From Special Guests
Students at Central High School recently got a surprise visit from two of Tuscaloosa's top radio personalities.
Friday, April 12th, students at central high school packed the gym for a surprise event led by 105.1 the Block's Big Dawg DreDay and Comedian LP of the Big Dawg DreDay Show in the Morning.
During their visit, DreDay and LP gave away prizes to students sponsored by Shelton State Community College, Townsquare Media and launched a community service initiative for West Alabama students to begin this summer.
The goal of the initiative is to increase community service hours with the youth in West Alabama this summer.
"Central is working hard to create a culture that is student centered that also fosters creativity and full engagement. Seeing the students have fun while getting excited about community service is an amazing experience to behold. We already have several organizations on campus which promote participation in community service, in addition to having several students who are members of federated study clubs and Greek based organizations who also focus on community based service," said Rachel James who is the English Language Arts Grade 12 Teacher and Varsity Cheer Coach at Central High School.
"Hopefully more students with join in with the challenge this summer which will continue to give them something productive to do."
Community service is something that Central high school's principal Teresha Jones-Hamilton, finds extremely important for her students.
"It is very important for Central students to participate in community service because it teaches our students the importance of giving back. We consider ourselves a Falcon Family. Family looks out for one another, meets needs as they arise, and works together to improve our current situations."
Students in West Alabama can participate in this community service initiative by volunteering throughout the summer. The school with the most community service hours in the fall will get a visit from DreDay and LP and the student in the school with the most service hours will get get a cash prize!
"It is very important for our Falcon students to participate in community service because we pride ourselves on building them to be good citizens and to be well-rounded individuals, said principal Teresha Jones-Hamilton.
"Serving your community with your time is an amazing way to show love back to the city and to promote positivity. More than ever, our kids need to impact and to be impacted in a positive way. Community service is an excellent way to do that!"
More details on this new community service initiative like official rules and prize details will be released soon.
If you have a school in mind that DreDay and LP should visit to hep spread the word about this new service initiative, send an email to DreDay@townsquaremedia.com.
