What Should Be Done About Recent West Alabama Violence

Recently, there has been a string of violent incidents in West Alabama. Community members have been speaking out about it and want something to be done to make the streets safe.

I've been living in Tuscaloosa for a little over a year now. As soon as I moved here, I was told by people who have lived here all their lives that violence here is bad. Specifically gun violence. At first, I thought, "I know how to navigate my way through that, I've seen it first hand back in Florida." Not even a full month into being in Tuscaloosa, I witnessed just how bad the gun violence was. Officer Dornell Cousette was killed in the line of duty.

Since then, I've heard about so many shootings, murders, and other violent crimes in Tuscaloosa. Recently, there have been three incidents I've heard about all in one day. A murder, 2 shootings all in West Alabama.

Members of the community are concerned about safety on our streets. I want to simply pose the questions: What do you think should be done? What can be done?

We all want to make sure our kids, family members, and loved ones, and even ourselves are safe when we go outside. With me being rather new to the community, I'm interested to know what people think should be done to change these habits in our community.

Just because I'm a new member of the community doesn't mean I don't want everyone to be safe. I know many parents are concerned about their children's safety as well as their loved ones. What can we do?

I'm open to any dialogue with community members on suggestions and any knowledge you could offer on the topic. Feel free to reach out to me on Instagram @BigDawgDreDay.
