Downtown Tuscaloosa's Half Shell Oyster House is offering free lunches to law enforcement officers Friday and Saturday.

The special promotion is in honor of National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, and the seafood restaurant will offer a free lunch for any police officer who comes in uniform or shows their credentials.

"We already donate pretty regularly to our police forces [and] our first responders, but I felt like we could have done something different and this is what we decided to do for them," Kelsey Griffin, the Marketing Director for Half Shell Oyster House, said.

Griffin said that this is the first time the restaurant chain has hosted an event that will be offered at all of their locations. Individual restaurants around the southeast have been involved in local charity operations, including a food and supply drive at their Lafayette location to help those impacted by Hurricane Laura back in September.

Half Shell Oyster House Tuscaloosa Owner Will Turner said that this event is about giving back to the people who are "always there for us."

"I'm just really happy to see that police officers feel appreciated and they get something given back to them," Griffin said. "The community has been so helpful also in sharing the word and making sure that all their friends, family and law enforcement are learning about it. It's a feel-good moment to be able to know that you can provide a little bit."
