Police in West Alabama have arrested a Jasper man who allegedly sexually assaulted a child this week.

In a post shared to Facebook Thursday morning, the Jasper Police Department said they received reports over the weekend alleging that 52-year-old Bryan Keith Shehane was sexually abusing a young child.

They specifically credited the work of Detective Will Wickwire, whose investigation led to the issuance of two felony warrants against Shehane.

Police arrested Shehane Tuesday and charged him with sex abuse of a child under the age of 12 and enticing a child for immoral purposes. The first is a Class B felony, the latter is a Class C felony.

The 52-year-old Jasper man was booked in the Walker County Jail, where his bond was set at $250,000.

“These types of cases are incredibly difficult,” Jasper Police Chief J.C. Poe said. “Anytime we have an innocent child victimized like this, we want the person responsible off the streets as quickly as possible. I’m very pleased with the job our officers and Detective Wickwire did to ensure this victim received justice as quickly as possible. I’m also grateful we have the resource of the Children’s Advocacy Center, and a District Attorney’s Office that is dedicated to getting these cases processed quickly so no other children become victims.”
