Nick Saban Said It Best: Focus On Today
Focus on Today
"What happened yesterday is history. What happens tomorrow is a mystery. What we do today makes a difference - the precious present moment." - Nick Saban.
"Yesterday is history.”
My 92-year-old mom has Alzheimer’s and has trouble remembering things. One day she said something only someone with memory loss would know, “Most people my age sit around thinking of all their regrets in life. I can’t remember any of my mistakes, so I’m happy!” How many of us replay our past mistakes over and over in our minds? And for what?
“Tomorrow is a mystery.”
It’s difficult to predict the future, yet we seem to expend an awful amount of energy trying to predict it. Watch the news on television. You may not have noticed it before, but it’s ridiculous how much of the newscast is devoted to trying to predict what’s going to happen. They always bring in “experts” to tell the viewers “what this means,” and usually, that analysis turns into “what could happen.” It irritates me to no end because ANYTHING can happen. We spend so much time trying to predict the future that we lose sight of the fact that no one can predict the future since it’s not set in stone.
“What we do today makes a difference - the precious present moment."
I had a physics teacher who used to say, “Take care of the pennies, and the dollars will take care of themselves.” He was talking about doing the homework consistently, of course, but the message was still applicable in most areas of life. Put in the daily work, and the results will pay off. Ask a bodybuilder. We often look at an insurmountable task and feel overwhelmed like a deer staring into headlights. But break it into small steps, and concentrate on each step while you’re tackling it. The closer you get to the end, the more confident you’ll feel, and before you know it, you’ve done what you once thought impossible.
