Tuscaloosa in The Big Apple: Million Dollar Band in The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
The Million Dollar Band will have a busy schedule in November. Not only will the MDB be performing during the Iron Bowl, but they will also be performing in New York the same week.
On Thanksgiving Day, the group will march in one of the most famous parades, The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. The group has never marched in the parade, and this is the first time the organization has been involved.
When reached out for comment, the Director of Bands at the University of Alabama Kenneth Ozzello was excited to be included in the event. The organization was set to perform in the 2020 version of the parade, however, the event was downsized due to COVID-19. He also said that the band was originally contacted by the parade producer to be included:
"Bands to be considered for Macy’s must submit a portfolio of materials that included videos, sound recordings, and a resume of past accomplishments. I was contacted by Wesley Whatley who is the parade producer and he said they would be thrilled to have the MDB in the parade."
The group will also be near the end of the parade. Dr. Ozzello elaborated simply:
"The band will be at the end escorting Santa Claus into Harold’s Square."
The last performing group spectators in-person and on TV across the nation will see before Saint Nick is the Million Dollar Band. This performance adds to a long list of appearances for the group.
Be sure to tune in on Thanksgiving Day to see the Million Dollar Band lead Santa into Harold Square.
