Former Tuscaloosa County High and Hillcrest High School football player and current Ole Miss Rebel, Jacquez Jones has announced his intention to leave via the transfer portal on his social media. Jones, a 3-star linebacker, led the Rebels in tackles last season with 75.

Jones has been a three-year contributor for the Landshark defense and has started in the middle for the last two seasons. He has accumulated 182 tackles and 2.5 sacks while forcing three fumbles during his time in the SEC. Jones was rated the No. 15 player in Alabama and the No. 10 linebacker in the country as a senior in high school.

David Johnson of OMSpirit called the Tuscaloosa-native the ninth most important player on the Ole Miss roster entering the 2021 season.

"Jones is the best linebacker on the Ole Miss roster, as evidenced by his team-leading 75 tackles last season," Johnson wrote. "He is a smart and heady player that is rarely out of position. He owns all the tools to become the leader of the unit on and off the field."

Jones was a member of the 2017 Hillcrest Patriots team that made the state semifinals for the first time since 1985. His loss creates a hole in the Rebels defense that finished last in the conference in points allowed.
