Millennials should get out and vote on the local and national level.  Why?  Simply put, because it is your right to vote.  It’s getting closer and closer to the general election, which is November 3, 2020, and there are great resources to help you navigate voting in Alabama, which is www.AlabamaVotes.gov  and by calling toll free: 1-800-274-8683.

I’ve been voting ever since I could remember.  Even as a kid, I would be part of the political process with my parents.  I would also participate in the kid elections at my school.  Seriously, you couldn’t tell me that I didn’t vote for the president when I was eight years old.  The Presidental kid election was a big event at my school, and through the whole process, we learned about the entire voting scenario.  It was a great lesson; I remember it even forty-some years later.

The Best Colleges, gave some rationale behind why millennials should vote because “key issues in every election increasingly relate to the concerns of students and professionals between the ages of 18 and 29, making it essential for members within that age group to educate themselves on political issues and take to the polls.”  The Best Colleges also offered up “9 reasons we need young voters more than ever.”

  1. Young voters account for half of the voting population, making them a powerful political force.
  2. Yet older Americans are more likely to vote.
  3. Every Vote Counts.
  4. Young people were hit hardest by the great recession.
  5. Young voters are an incredibly diverse group.
  6. Young people need to connect with politics early on.
  7. It’s easier than ever to be an educated voter.
  8. The youth can sway the election.
  9. You may not care now, but you might in four years
