The Tuscaloosa Police Department responded to 30 reports of celebratory gunfire within the Druid City on New Year's Eve.

TPD Public Information Officer Stephanie Taylor says the reports came in between 7:30 p.m on December 31 and 4:30 a.m. on January 1.

No injuries were reported as a result of the gunfire; however, stray bullets damaged two residences in Tuscaloosa.

A bullet came through the ceiling and shattered a window at a home on Mimosa Park Drive while the family was inside. A home on Second Avenue East was damaged when a bullet came through the living room ceiling; the family was also home at the time of this incident.

The Tuscaloosa Police Department reminds citizens that celebratory gunfire is not only dangerous--it is illegal.

"It is a felony to shoot into an occupied building, whether the shots were fired intentionally or recklessly," Taylor said.
