Kentuck Art Center is set to open its 2026 exhibition season on Thursday, February 5, inviting the community to celebrate Art Night and the debut of two new exhibitions that introduce this year’s curatorial theme, Gifts of the Spirit, according to a press release sent to Townsquare Media.

The 2026 theme explores artists who feel compelled by a higher power to create, or whose work reflects deeply personal interpretations of religious and spiritual experiences.

As the nation approaches the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, Kentuck’s upcoming exhibitions highlight how artists continue to exercise religious freedom through creative expression.

February’s featured exhibitions include My Spiritual Odyssey by Scott McQueen, on display in the Museum Gallery, and The Auguries of the Planter by Casey Roberts in the Teer Gallery. Both exhibitions will open during Art Night from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and are free and open to the public. Attendees will also have an opportunity to hear directly from the artists, with Casey Roberts speaking at 5:30 p.m. followed by Scott McQueen at 6:30 p.m.

“Gifts of the Spirit is a phrase our founder, Georgine Clarke, used to describe artists who feel called to create,” said Exa Skinner, executive director of Kentuck Art Center and Festival. She noted that the season’s exhibitions feature work shaped by lived experience and a freedom to explore faith through art.

The 2026 season will continue throughout the year at Kentuck Art Center and Kentuck at Queen City, featuring exhibitions by a diverse lineup of regional and national artists, along with selections from Kentuck’s Permanent Collection and its annual Members Juried Show.

This exhibition season is supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Alabama State Council on the Arts.
