Major Alabama Seafood Supplier Faces Major Recall
Oh no! Not another recall.
It feels like 2024 has been filled with major recalls and we're not even half way through the year.
Earlier this month, Cargill Meat Solutions is recalled just over 16,000 pounds of raw ground beef products that may have been contaminated with E. coli O157:H7. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced back on May 1st.
- 2.25-lbs. plastic-wrapped trays containing "93% LEAN 7% FAT ALL NATURAL LEAN GROUND BEEF" with lot code 117 and establishment number "EST. 86P" printed on the back of the label.
- 1.33-lbs. plastic-wrapped trays containing four "PRIME RIB BEEF STEAK BURGERS PATTIES" with lot code 118 and establishment number "EST. 86P" printed on the back of the label.
- 2.25-lbs. plastic-wrapped trays containing "85% LEAN 15% FAT ALL NATURAL ANGUS PREMIUM GROUND BEEF" with lot code 117 and establishment number "EST. 86P" printed on the back of the label.
- 2.25-lbs. plastic-wrapped trays containing "80% LEAN 20% FAT ALL NATURAL GROUND BEEF CHUCK" with lot code 118 and establishment number "EST. 86P" printed on the back of the label.
- 1.33-lbs. plastic-wrapped trays containing four "80% LEAN 20% FAT ALL NATURAL GROUND BEEF CHUCK PATTIES" with lot code 118 and establishment number "EST. 86P" printed on the back of the label.
- 1.33-lbs. plastic-wrapped trays containing four "90% LEAN 10% FAT ALL NATURAL GROUND BEEF SIRLOIN PATTIES" with lot code 118 and establishment number "EST. 86P" printed on the back of the label.
Back in January, we kicked off the year with a recall that threatened the lives of infants in Alabama. There was a recall on baby formula and according to the FDA, the contamination “For most people, it is harmless, but it can be life-threatening for infants younger than two months, infants who are born prematurely, and for infants who have weakened immune systems.”
Now, as we head into the summer there has been a recall on seafood. The recall was issued by Alabama seafood processor Irvington Seafood.
According to Food Manufacturing, the seafood recall is said to "have the potential to be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems."
The 1lb packages of "Crabmeat: Jumbo, Lump, Finger, and Claw meat" are the affected procucts in this recall. The product has the license number AL 111-C with the company name “Irvington Seafood."
According to Food Manufacturing, the recalled "Crabmeat: Jumbo, Lump, Finger, and Claw meat" was sent to distributors located in Alabama, and Mississippi. Products may end up in retail seafood markets or restaurants.
