The Greensboro Raiders (3-4, 1-2) had a thrilling homecoming victory on Friday night over the Midfield Patriots (0-5, 0-3). The Raiders trailed by 10-points with right at nine minutes left in the contest but were able to play sound defense and finally found rhythm on offense to end up winning the game 28-24 to claim its second-straight victory on the season.

"My guys fought hard, they fought fast, we played a great second half, came out rocky in the first. They had a lot of dog in them. I'm proud of them," said Greensboro head coach Winston Johnson.

"Rocky" was one way to put a first half that featured 13 collective penalties on both sides of the football, seven for Greensboro and six for Midfield. Each program had a first-half turnover, more costly for the Raiders as sophomore Hourice Grady fell on a fumble in the endzone for a Patriots touchdown. Greensboro even had two special teams miscues in the first half, enduring a blocked 47-yard field goal and a failed punt turned fire drill that gave Midfield great field position.

Despite the sloppy nature of the first half the Raiders only went into the locker room trailing the Patriots 12-6. Offensively each side got into the endzone in the first half once. For Midfield it was freshman quarterback Aaron Adams-Martin scoring on a 9-yard run. For Greensboro it was a 35-yard catch and run for junior receiver Kendrick Paige.

The Midfield second half effort was led by the freshman quarterback as Adams-Martin threw a touchdown pass and scored on a 38-yard scoop and score fumble recovery from his safety position on defense.

In total the freshman left it all on the field completing 16-of-29 passes for 169 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. He also took seven carries for 20 yards and a touchdown.

"He's a young kid, he's still growing and he's going to get better. He's going to get better. He's a young kid, you can't put a lot on him as a freshman, 14-year old kid, but he's going to get better," said Midfield coach Rod Isaac.

However, with the clock dwindling away, it became the Lewis brothers show out at Robert Lucky Field. Seniors Ty'Darrion and Ty'Quan combined forces on the ground to lift the Raiders to their third win of the year.

Ty'Quan scored the first of his two second-half touchdowns with less than four minutes left in the third quarter and he also had the honors on the game-winning score with right at four minutes left in the game.

His brother, Ty'Darrion, wasn't to be left out as he scored his rushing touchdown with right at six minutes left in the game that cut Midfield's lead to just two-points.

In total Ty'Quan took 16 carries for 112 yards and 2 touchdowns while Ty'Darrion took 7 carries for 53 yards and a touchdown.

"Ty'Quan and his brother, Ty'Darrian are special, special, special, sepcial kids. They played their heart out. They put their team on their back and did what they do best, made plays," said Johnson.

The Greensboro Raiders will continue its season with three region games remaining. If the Raiders want to make a playoff push they can do so by building on Friday night's victory. They will play their final regular season home game next week against Southside Selma.
