Community leaders, faith groups and advocacy organizations from across Alabama are expected to gather at the Alabama State House for a rally and press conference focused on redistricting and voting representation.

According to a press release sent to Townsquare Media from event organizers, the gathering will take place Monday, May 4 at 3 p.m. outside the Alabama State House in Montgomery.

The event, called “People’s House Pull Up,” comes as Alabama lawmakers prepare for a special legislative session connected to ongoing court decisions involving redistricting and election timelines.

According to the press release, organizers say the event is intended to highlight transparency, accountability and fair representation in decisions involving election maps across the state.

Participants are also expected to discuss how redistricting decisions impact communities throughout Alabama and why organizers believe district maps should better reflect the populations they represent.

Several organizations are expected to participate in the event including Alabama Arise Action, American Civil Liberties Union, Black Voters Matter Fund, League of Women Voters of Alabama, NAACP Alabama State Conference and Southern Poverty Law Center.

According to the press release, organizers describe the event as nonpartisan and community centered.

The rally is scheduled to take place at the Alabama State House located at 11 South Union Street in Montgomery.
