Student Leaders Graduate from New Tuscaloosa Program
A new group of student leaders is stepping into the spotlight in Tuscaloosa.
The inaugural Leaders to Legends class will graduate Friday, April 10 at the Bryant Conference Center, marking the end of a yearlong program focused on leadership, service, and real community impact.

The program, designed for high school juniors, brings together students from across the city and county, including schools like Northridge, Paul W. Bryant, Central, and Hillcrest, giving them tools to lead both in school and beyond.
“Students discover their community in new ways seeing what exists now while envisioning how service can help build the future,” said program director Kelly Wolfe, according to the press release. “Students connect, engage and realize that small acts of service can spark significant, long-term change.”
Throughout the year, students took part in hands-on experiences that built confidence and leadership skills, including communication training, conflict resolution workshops, and team-based challenges.
But it didn’t stop there.
Students also worked directly with community leaders, partnered with local nonprofits, and created service projects aimed at addressing real needs across Tuscaloosa.
The program also focused on preparing students for what comes next, exposing them to career pathways through mentorship, virtual reality simulations, and personal branding exercises like LinkedIn development.
The initiative is a collaboration between The University of Alabama Office of Teaching Innovation and Digital Education and the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama.
Graduation begins at 1 p.m. inside the Birmingham Room, with remarks expected from University of Alabama President Peter Mohler and Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox.
The next Leaders to Legends class is already set to launch this September, continuing the push to develop the next generation of leaders right here in West Alabama.
