The City of Tuscaloosa is celebrating International Building Safety Day by recognizing the professionals who help keep the city growing safely every single day.

International Building Safety Day shines a spotlight on the inspectors, plan reviewers, code officials and building professionals who work behind the scenes to make sure homes, schools, businesses and public buildings meet important safety standards. The day also raises awareness about the role building safety plays in protecting communities from structural issues, severe weather, fire hazards and other risks.

According to the City of Tuscaloosa, the city’s Building and Inspections Division has already stayed busy in 2025 helping support Tuscaloosa’s continued growth and development.

The city says more than 3,000 permits have been issued so far this year while nearly 19,000 permit inspections have also been conducted.

Those inspections help ensure projects across the city meet local building codes and safety regulations before construction moves forward or buildings are occupied.

As Tuscaloosa continues to see new construction, renovations and business growth across the area, city leaders say the work done by the Building and Inspections Division remains a major part of keeping the community safe while supporting economic development.

The City of Tuscaloosa thanked the division’s employees for their continued hard work and dedication to building a stronger and safer community for residents across West Alabama.
