With federal "Trump Accounts" set to launch on July 4, a new survey suggests millions of eligible families may miss out on the program's $1,000 government contribution for newborns.
According to a recent BabyCenter survey, nearly half of eligible families (47%) either plan to skip the accounts intentionally or are unaware of the program altogether.
The survey found that 27% of eligible mothers said they do not plan to participate, effectively declining the $1,000 contribution available for children born between 2025 and 2028. Another 20% said they were unfamiliar with the program and did not know what the accounts are or how they work.
Political views appear to be playing a role in participation. Among parents who do plan to open an account, 17% said they are doing so solely to receive the government funds despite not supporting the current administration.
The survey also found generational differences. Gen Z parents were twice as likely as Millennial parents to reject the accounts due to political opposition, with 16% of Gen Z respondents citing that reason compared to 8% of Millennials.
Researchers also identified a significant income gap. Families earning more than $125,000 annually were much more likely to participate than households earning less than $75,000. Lower-income parents were also far less likely to be aware of the program, with nearly one-third saying they had never heard of Trump Accounts.

With the July 4 launch date approaching, the findings suggest awareness not just political opinion may be one of the biggest barriers to participation. You can check out more here.
